Encyclopedia Britannica

Britannica Online Library Edition has 3 versions. These can be searched individually or can be searched at the one time using search all library editions.
'Access articles, select journal and magazines, web sites, atlases, timelines and videos. The features tabs and level of content will vary depending on the encyclopedia version you choose.

1. Encyclopedia Britannica Traditional version. In this version only, you can find the Year in review to access almanac type information i.e. notable people and events.
2. Britannica Student Suitable for secondary student level.
3. Britannica Junior Suitable for primary school level or overview articles.

Additional features -World atlas: physical and political maps. Outlines government, language, major cities, related articles and maps. Timelines, videos, and subject browse is available in the three versions. Biographies are available in student and junior version only.

Search tips -

  • Select 'search all library edition' . This will retrieve results for each version, or search single version.
  • Type in word, phrase or question. Click GO
  • For an exact match use double quotation marks round words or phrase.
  • Enter the most specific term first for the best result.
  • Sometimes natural language can get the best results. Good for specific questions. e.g. the third longest river in the world.
  • People - type name in full for best results.

Search sample-

  1. 'Search all library edition' for the article on CHINA.
  2. Access the Encyclopedia Britannica version. Explore content related to this topic from the left hand side menu. :main article -Tables (for statistical information) --Images (for graphs and maps in the related articles index and subject headings.) Click on the arrow to reveal sub heading.Includes yearbooks - useful for the latest population figures, government heads, current affairs -Media-videos -Maps and Flags - Quick facts, journals and magazines and web's best sites right handside of screen.

General Onefile

General OneFile, is a large general database, similar to but larger than Masterfile Premier. It has more than 11,000 journal titles (over 60 million articles), including a significant collection of Australian titles, some dating as far back as 1980.

General OneFile is our electronic access to Choice magazine and also gives full-text access to many key titles including Art & Australia, Australian Library Journal and the Australian Journal of Early Childhood, as well as more popular magazines including Australian Geographic, Cosmopolitan and more.

Due to the wide ranging content, General OneFile could be used for patrons requiring Choice articles or content related to their hobbies and interests, as well as secondary and tertiary level students requiring articles for their coursework.
